This Week's Learning

Term 3 Week 5

In English and Communication this week, we are going to complete our final piece of instruction writing. We will use and apply all of the skills that we have learnt so far to create a set of instructions designed to help Lady Belle in her quest.

In Phonics, we will use the 'eer' trigraph to make the /ear/ sound. Our tricky words will be 'build' and 'earth'. Our grammar focus for the week will be to create sentences in the regular present tense.

In Guided Reading, we will be using our VIPERS reading skills to explore the Paper Bag Princess.

In Maths, we will explore the concept of change. We will learn how to efficiently calculate change from £1 using both a bar model and a number-line. Next, we will explore how to "find the difference" technique to calculate change from other total values. Finally, we will combine our addition and finding the difference skills to solve two-step problems involving money.

In Science and Computing, we are going to complete a scientific investigation based around our class quest. We are going to use and apply our scientific understanding of dissolving with our skills of scientific observation to decide which secret ingredient is best suited to help Lady Belle on her quest.

In Time and Place, we are going to explore the big idea of 'Power' and consider how the concepts of invasion and settlement have shaped our island's history.

We will also complete Mastering Number, PHSCE, PE and Design and the Arts sessions as well. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly using the class email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
