Term 4 Week 1

Welcome back!

Term 4 Week 1 – overview

Each week we are fortunate to have a ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.  This year, this will take place on a Monday afternoon.  Instruments are provided by the school.

Spelling and grammar –we will be learning words with the -tion ending.

In English, we will be editing, correcting and writing up our rainforest stories.  We are also designing book covers for them and publishing them for our book area!

In Maths, we will be beginning a unit on measure by looking at measurements in kilometres and metres, calculating equivalent measurements in kilometres and metres, calculating perimeter on a grid and the perimeter of a rectangle.

In RE, we will begin a new unit on Salvation, by asking ‘why do Christians call the day Jesus died, Good Friday?’  We will begin by recalling our prior knowledge of key events in Holy Week, such as Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Judas’ betrayal and Peter’s denial of Jesus.

In Geography, we are homing in on European countries.  This week we will revise our knowledge of the continents and then describe some key features of Europe.

At the end of last term, we began a DT project on sculpting using materials that would otherwise go into landfill.  Our polar bears have dried over half-term, and I know we are all looking forward to painting them and adding their features.

PE is on Monday morning with Mrs Barter and on Thursday afternoon with Mrs Tompsett.   This term we are going to be focusing on fundamental skills and net games in tennis.

Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:
