Term 3, week 3

Last week, the children undertook some baseline assessments, and they worked really hard all week! Back to normal this week, our week of learning is as follows:

Our Whole Class Reading this week will be using a non-fiction text, all about Sir Isaac Newton. We will be looking at vocabulary and answering comprehension questions.

English will be focusing on ‘King of the Sky’, a beautiful book by Nicola Davies, with the aim of introducing the children to direct speech as the unit progresses.

Maths will continue to build on the addition and subtraction unit.

In Science, we will be continuing our investigations about rocks and soils.

In Art, we will be starting a new unit, as we didn’t manage to start last week! We will be looking at portraits and different options to create a self-portrait.

In our Geography topic work, we will continue looking at the United Kingdom.

PE is on a Monday and Friday this term, and we will be continuing gymnastics this week. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school. Please also note, gymnastics is completed bare-footed, so socks are an essential additional item if wearing tights.

Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please email, or leave a note in the homework book.

Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days but we will also do our best to change books every day if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please do get in touch.

If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.

Kind regards

Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
